CHARLEVOIX, Mich. (AP) – A Michigan congressman who’s been fighting for stricter curbs on abortion in federal health care legislation is being challenged in the August Democratic primary.

Connie Saltonstall of Charlevoix says she’ll run against Rep. Bart Stupak of Menominee. Saltonstall says Stupak has “a right to his personal religious views” but says it’s “reprehensible” to let them block health care reform.

Stupak’s office declined immediate comment Tuesday. Stupak won approval of an amendment to health care legislation banning use of federal funds for abortions. He says abortion limits in a Senate-passed version of the legislation are too weak.

Saltonstall is an ex-teacher and ex-Charlevoix County commissioner.

There has been a Primary Stupak drive on Facebook as well.

Lets beat Stupak with Tom Stillings, a true conservative running for
his seat. Make yourself a fan and contribute here to take Bart down in
    November.
