Jason Allen, currently Senator of Michigan’s 37th district, is soon to announce his decision to run for United States Representative of Michigan’s First District.
The Constitution does not require a representative of a district to live within the district he/she represents, however, Jason Allen and his family have decided to move within the district from his life long home of Traverse City, to “legitimately run” for the office formerly held by Bart Stupak.
The overwhelming majority of the current 1st district is infinitely different than the Traverse City area, and it is disconcerting that Allen would presume to represent most firsters. The TC area is the home of Michael Moore’s yearly film festival, and is a play spot of many celebrities and government officials.
There is a valid concern that Senator Allen, a politician who has not been living the life of a person from the vast tundra of the first district, nor has he represented 74% of the district, could win his party’s nomination, and would be attacked relentlessly by the Democratic nominee on this issue.
Once the Democratic nominee gets a hold of Allen’s background and his associations with the rich lifestyle of the Traverse City set, they will divide the first district on the rich versus the poor, class warfare, and Allen will be deemed a rich Republican.
I’m not saying that Jason Allen doesn’t have the right to run, I am simply stating that one cannot ignore these facts, and although he is a personable guy, his background threatens the focus that I and many like me have on turning over the first district back to the GOP.
The 37th district that Allen currently represents covers the counties of Grand Traverse, Antrim, Charlevoix, Emmet, Cheboygan, Presque Isle, Mackinac and Chippewa.
The 1st congressional district covers 30 counties and a part of one more. Prior to 2002, the district included Traverse City, but was redistricted.

Jason Allen is friend of mine, he is down with the struggle like the rest of us He is by no means a rich man He ha s done alot of good for the state, He is a devote family man. To compare Jason with Moore is down right stupid Mike Moore lives on Torch Lake West of Bellaire on Torch where he cut Down 100 year old pines so he good get better view of the lake. Did I say he was a rich man Ron? Did I compare him to Mike Moore? Or did you jump to yell at me for stating an opinion of how Allen will be viewed? I am well aware of Ronald Reagan, and am a movement conservative. It seems to me that you are the one speaking ill of another Republican.
No Iam not it seems that some Republicans always from circular firing Squad, were you alive under Reagans tenure in the White House I was I ran his Indiana campaign back when he almost beat Ford for the 1976 nomination. then we all celebrated when he Won the White House in a landslide
I believe Jason Allen is a RINO that most recently supported unionization of home health care workers.
My money is on Linda Goldthorpe a constitutionalists that has been long before the tea party movement. She is authentic and will help Dr Paul eliminate the socialist laws that are strangling America.

I am a former employee of Jason and his father in Traverse City. I have never witnessed a person more dedicated to his family and country. I think it would be very difficult to find a better candidate to truly represent that House District. Mike
