The Soo Evening News provided press releases for both Gary McDowell and Dan Benishek and asks the question, “Who is telling the truth?”

McDowell’s press release attacks Benishek on the issue of privatizing Social Security saying, “Benishek tried to pull the wool over the eyes of northern Michigan residents by hiding his plan to eliminate Social Security and turn our retirement savings over to the greedy Wall Street traders.”

But, when you watch the videos provided and read Benishek’s release, McDowell comes off as chicken little crying the sky is falling.

Benishek does not say he wishes to eliminate Social Security, but he does point out that to act as though nothing should be done about it is ludicrous. By looking at the CBO’s projections, it is painfully obvious that Social Security will be bankrupt in no time.

This is a generational issue. We are talking about 4 generations, the Greatest Generation, the Boomers, the Generation Xer’s and whatever the powers that be have named my children.

I’m a GenXer, hence the blog name, and I have always believed I cannot rely on Social Security. Ask any person around 40, they see that their grandparents and their parents are stuck with just so much money with Social Security, and they are working to provide a nest egg that will help them through retirement, if they are ever able to retire.

It is also a socialism issue. The very name “social security” gives the impression that everyone must pitch in to provide for the security of the elderly. However, with most Boomers and GenXer’s having two or less children and let’s not forget abortion of many, and high unemployment, it is just not realistic to continue to say that Social Security as it is structured right now can survive.

The truth is, Benishek did not say he wishes to eliminate it, and McDowell is the one not telling the truth, or perhaps, not interested in solving problems for mine and my children’s generation.

IRON MOUNTAIN, MI – Dr. Dan Benishek, the Republican nominee for Congress in Michigan’s 1st District, joined millions of Americans around the country by watching President Obama’s speech on Iraq tonight.

“It is encouraging to see that progress has been made in Iraq,” Dr. Benishek stated. “However, the fact that roughly 50,000 U.S. troops will remain in the country is evidence that our work there is not complete. Our young servicemen and women continue to put themselves in harm’s way for the cause of freedom. As the father of a veteran of the Iraqi and Afghan wars, I know that we must continue to provide adequate resources to our soldiers who are still serving overseas and to our veterans who have returned home. I hope that President Obama’s call to ‘turn the page’ does not leave our troops without this necessary support.”

Dr. Benishek also noted the limited role that politicians should play in how armed conflicts are conducted. “It is essential that our nation’s political leaders defer to the sound judgment of our commanders on the ground when determining military strategy. This important milestone in Iraq would not have been possible if President Obama had his way by blocking the troop surge,” Dr. Benishek pointed out.

In October 2006, then-Sen. Obama stated in an interview on NBC’s Meet the Press that “it is clear at this point that we cannot, through putting in more troops or maintaining the presence that we have, expect that somehow the situation is going to improve.” “Thankfully,” Dr. Benishek concluded, “President Obama was wrong.”

In the aftermath of the very close MI01 Republican primary, won by Dan Benishek of Crystal Falls by 15 votes, several things have transpired that has tested the friendships and trust of tea party members and patriots, and the movement itself.

Wilson

Glenn Wilson, a self-proclaimed independent, has entered the first district race and has co-opted former leadership of the tea party movement. In a Politico article Wilson is cited as being, “backed by several tea party groups.” When in reality, he has hired the former leader of the Petoskey Tea Party and has the support of disgruntled libertarians. Rich Carlson is no longer the leader of any tea party group, and his friend, Randy Bishop, has completely alienated the tea party folks in Emmet County and many of the supporters he had in his bid to become State Senator to replace Jason Allen in Michigan’s 37th.

Carlson, a former supporter of Tom Stilling’s campaign for the Republican nomination for MI01, had discontinued attendance at the regular meetings for the Petoskey Tea Party group, which prompted the group to elect a replacement leader, Dennis Kelly.

The group, satisfied with being elected to positions within the Republican Party of Emmet County, were very interested in working within the Republican ranks to support conservative ideals and working to decrease the influence of liberalism. Bishop, a member of the tea party group, and a Republican candidate for Senate in Michigan’s 37th, on his own, decided to send out a mass email from “Tea Party leader Randy Bishop” titled, “Local Tea Party group takes control of the Emmet County Republican County Convention.” The email discussed the “political maneuver that could become fuel for the tea party movement across the country.”

The current leadership of the Petoskey Tea Party took great offense to this email on two counts, 1) that Bishop is not the tea party leader, and 2) the email was an unnecessary and provocative move that alienated the Republican base in Emmet County.

To top it off, former tea party leader, Carlson, had introduced the group to Glenn Wilson, a person they were assured would not enter the race in the general unless Jason Allen, current Senator of the 37th won the First District Race. Allen was not held in too fond esteem by most tea party members, and was considered too liberal. (Side note: Many tea partiers believe that when Allen did not ask for a recount, his acceptance of the vote was honorable. Also, when he threw his support behind the winner, it was recognized as a very honorable thing to do for the party.)

“We had made a pledge back in January that we would not go third party as a group, we would not endorse candidates, and just recently we approved a motion to only support the Republican Candidate after the primary, because we knew third parties elect a Democrat, which was of course, not what we wanted.” Kelly said. So the fact that Carlson was pushing Wilson went against everything they had said as a group previously.

If Wilson figured that he had major support with the tea party movement, the Gladwin Tea Party held this past Saturday, should have been the big clue that he will not win a large number of them over. After Wilson finished his speech, which included a number of fractured sentences, no clear train of thought, and was mostly a diatribe against the two-party system, he was questioned no less than 6 times why he is trying to split the conservative vote. Instead of answering the question, he fell back on his disgust of the Republican Party and the Democrat Party. Even when asked that since his platform mirrors much of the Republican platform, why not use his energy to become a part of the Republican Party in order to change it, he responded with a high-pitched, “Tell the Republican to leave the race!”

That response gained some gasps and groans from the audience, but it highlights the illogical thought process of entering the race after the primary. Unless it is not illogic, but for some purpose.

I had the pleasure of meeting with a current tea party member who used to live in Wayne County (Detroit). He told me that he worked on many campaigns, all local, all Democrat. “The thing is, there are liberal Democrats and conservative Democrats, so it is still a two-party system.” He continued, “it is common practice for the liberals to put up a second conservative in order to split the vote and usher in the liberal.” A fellow tea partier asked him, “If that is what is happening here, is there anyway to find out if Wilson is working with the Democrats?” The man said, “No, there will be no trace, no paperwork, he would be fresh.”

Goldthorpe

The Republican Primary included six Republicans until Goldthorpe suspended her campaign on July 14th. Even though she stopped campaigning, she received almost 5,000 votes in the primary. She had been attending Lincoln Day Dinners and fundraisers for the Republican Party for quite some time, and it was reported several times by several Republicans that her speeches and thoughts on Reagan were not very welcome. She told a group of teenage Republicans that she cried the day she became a Republican, and that she hated Lincoln Day dinners. She said at one meeting, that Reagan contributed to our tax slavery, and at another, was seen refusing to applaud a remembrance of Reagan on his birthday. She was known to carry a small plastic rhinocerous as a visual aid during her speeches, placing blame on every Republican in the room for being RINOs (Republicans in Name Only.) In short, Goldthorpe purported to be the only true Republican, the only pure Republican, and everyone else, except perhaps Ron Paul, were anti-constitutional political hacks. Her campaign manager was Tom Backers, who is now promoting Wilson. Her son is now working for Wilson. Linda Goldthorpe has endorsed Wilson.

This move of Goldthorpe’s has alienated many who believed in her. She has an understanding, one would think, of history and third parties.

In fact, on Monday’s Rush Limbaugh radio program, a woman called from Delaware. Claire said she used to be a Republican, but she has become an independent instead,

“RUSH: Okay, now, having said all that, Claire, I have a penetrating and hard-hitting question for you.

CALLER: Yes?

RUSH: Because you started out saying you used to be a Republican.

CALLER: Hm-hmm.

RUSH: But now you are an independent.

CALLER: That’s correct.

RUSH: All right. Now, if you are not a Republican, but you oppose liberalism, socialism, communism, then how are you helping us take back the Republican Party? How many independents are going to be elected this November?

CALLER: Well, I have to tell you, I’m in the process of actually switching back, because of the upcoming primaries that are coming up. And I’ll tell you what turned me on the Republicans. First of all, in my state when Mike Castle voted for the cap and trade, I was done.

RUSH: Yeah, well, Castle’s a RINO.

CALLER: But there’s many of them in this party and there’s too many that don’t understand.

RUSH: That’s right. That’s why you’ve gotta stay in it and take over and make them the minority in the party.

CALLER: Well, I want to echo one other thing, and that is true, that is true. I think if there’s a shot at communism, the danger to this country, it’s going to have to be a Republican because I know it won’t come from a Democrat, but I’m not even sure at this point if the Republicans understand it.

RUSH: That’s another thing that you’re pretty close to being right on, and that’s why abandoning the party and going independent is a ticket to third party, which is a guaranteed winner for Democrats.”

Of course Rush is right, but this back and forth has been part of his radio show for decades. Everybody knows that third parties elect the Democrats. If the independent candidate and his endorsers do not understand this, motives are the next thing that will be questioned. It is a natural progression.

J.R. Dunn in the American Thinker writes,

“But a wild card remains — the Tea Parties. American political culture has never been limited, as it is in Europe, to a professional elite that makes the deals and then imposes them on the prole class. In this country the people speak, as they are speaking today. Obama has governed so ineptly, arrogantly, and stupidly as to arouse disgust in people who until now have been happy to ignore politics.

The Tea Parties are not Republican. They’re not even necessarily conservative as we have grown to recognize the term. But they are American in spirit, and thus de facto conservative. They must turn to the GOP as a political vessel because they have nowhere else to turn.”

The vast majority of tea partiers are out working for their candidates, and in Michigan, if their candidate did not win the primary, they have committed to the Republican candidate. The pursuing of a third party perpetuates the myth that conservatism is a narrow-minded and narrowly-focused purist movement.

Daniel Hannen, Conservative MEP writes in the UK Telegraph,

“K Street versus Tea Party: the latest manifestation of the Republican Party’s ancient dualism. The story of that party’s rise and fall over the past six decades is, in a sense, the story of the rise and fall of what would now be called its Tea Party tendency.”

So those who follow Wilson, set themselves up for failure, but that could be said for the Libertarian movement who perennially chose a different Party in order to push their agenda. If those who cannot vote for either party in a two-party system really wanted to fight the good fight, work toward a goal, plod on and make headway, they would join the movement within the Republican Party, where numerous tea party members have already made a pledge to not go third party and have followed through with it.

Ronald Reagan, speaking at CPAC 1977:

Our first job is to get this message across to those who share most of our principles. If we allow ourselves to be portrayed as ideological shock troops without correcting this error we are doing ourselves and our cause a disservice. Wherever and whenever we can, we should gently but firmly correct our political and media friends who have been perpetuating the myth of conservatism as a narrow ideology. Whatever the word may have meant in the past, today conservatism means principles evolving from experience and a belief in change when necessary, but not just for the sake of change.

Once we have established this, the next question is: What will be the political vehicle by which the majority can assert its rights?

I have to say I cannot agree with some of my friends — perhaps including some of you here tonight — who have answered that question by saying this nation needs a new political party.

I respect that view and I know that those who have reached it have done so after long hours of study. But I believe that political success of the principles we believe in can best be achieved in the Republican Party. I believe the Republican Party can hold and should provide the political mechanism through which the goals of the majority of Americans can be achieved. For one thing, the biggest single grouping of conservatives is to be found in that party. It makes more sense to build on that grouping than to break it up and start over.

Rather than a third party, we can have a new first party made up of people who share our principles. I have said before that if a formal change in name proves desirable, then so be it. But tonight, for purpose of discussion, I’m going to refer to it simply as the New Republican Party.

UPDATE
Randy Bishop’s email has been asked about, and it reads as follows:

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Questions Contact Tea Party Leader – Randy Bishop

Local Tea Party group takes control of the Emmet County Republican County Convention

Petoskey, MI (August 16, 2010) Last Thursday night, August 12, 2010 at the Emmet County Republican Convention something different took place than just electing delegates for the state convention in Lansing. Early on in the meeting, the long time Emmet County Chair was defeated in a vote to chair the county convention meeting. Something that is always taken as a given, became a political maneuver that could become fuel for the tea party movement across the country.

Brian Sommerfield, an accountant who has never been involved with politics, was presented with the plan a few days prior. The idea was simple, use the meeting’s rules to get a nomination and a second in a brief moment of opportunity. After a roll call vote, Sommerfield won and assumed the conventions permanent chair. He then took over the chairmanship of the meeting, and will lead the county’s delegates to the Michigan Republican State Convention in Lansing on August 28th. They had rehearsed that part of the meeting and were confident they had enough Tea Party members there to pull it off. He was forwarded all of the rules and agenda the night before. He knew right where he was going to have to take over the meeting and how to proceed from that point on.

How Did Someone Get From the Couch to the Front of the Room – by Brian Sommerfield

I was never involved in politics, but have followed the process and news closely for years. I was motivated by what has happened to our state over the last decade. And, the way our liberties and freedoms are being taken from us more recently. The stimulus, out of control spending, and Obamacare kicked me off my couch. I started going to tea party rallies and candidate forums. I wanted to get behind people and help them win.

I was struck by something said during a stump speech about the triangle of government. Constitutionally, the local government is suppose to be at the bottom of the pyramid. The local bodies should be able to handle most of our government issues and problem solving. The state would be in the middle and have a lesser role. The feds at the top with the least involvement. The triangle that was sturdy on its base has been turned upside down and is an arrow pointed straight down cutting at our spirit, liberties and freedoms.
I wanted to find out what could I do at the local level to turn that triangle back to its base. Get things back to we the people. Back to common people like me, my neighbor, and the guy down the street.

The answer was simple. It all starts with the precinct delegate. A friend of mine running for office in another district explained what a precinct delegate rolls and responsibilities were. Then, emailed me the application to be a write in candidate. I filled it out and got it notarized the next day. I was able to get it to the City Offices 10 minutes before the deadline. I was the fourth person in my local ward to be on the ballot. That was on Friday, four days before the election.

Tuesday morning I got up and voted. I wrote my name on the line below the other three names. I could vote for up to four. I voted for the other three as well. That night when the ballots were counted, I had my one vote. I was elected as a precinct delegate to the third ward of Petoskey. With 100% of the vote counted, I was voted in by one vote. Mine!

One week later, an email was forwarded to me from someone down state. It laid out the plan that was followed Thursday night. Petoskey has a well organized tea party with members that got involved a few years earlier to make a difference. Some of them were elected on Tuesday night. This was a county that was identified as one that could make a statement to the rest of the country. I illustrated the plan on Wednesday night. We debated the pros and cons. We had to try this. We had to show Lansing and Washington. The plan was on.

On Thursday night, we met before the meeting for one last time. It was a go. You know that we were successful. The final vote….. 12-11. I was voted in by one vote. From our group we have 8 of the 9 delegates going to Lansing. Eight people new to the process wanting to make a difference. A difference for their families, communities and future generations. Common people willing to get off the couch. If we get involved at the grass roots level, we can start to take our country back.

*****IMPORTANT*****
Randy has told me personally two times that he, Wilson, and Carlson struck a firm agreement that Wilson would not enter the race unless Allen was the Republican nominee. Wilson himself told the Northern Michigan Liberty Alliance that he would not enter the race unless Allen was the nominee. In fact, the Petoskey Tea Party was told the same thing by Carlson.

When Wilson entered the race, I emailed Randy Bishop and asked him about the promise Wilson made. He emailed me back, “Glenn Wilson entered the race by filing his papers before the July 15th deadline,…primary wasn’t until August 3rd. So obviously, that’s not what Glenn promised. Randy”

I shot back, “that is what you said he promised.”

And he answered, “No,…that’s not what I said he promised.”

So, what we have are three fellows who have told nothing but lies, and are still trying to wiggle out of it.

Today the MI Board of Canvassers met and certified Crystal Falls surgeon Dan Benishek to be the winner of the Republican Primary in Michigan’s First District.

On election night, the final tally shown Dan Benishek the leader with one solitary vote. After the certification process that took place today, Benishek won the primary 27,077 to State Senator Jason Allen 20,062. The board certified at 10:14am.

Benishek held a conference call today with members of the newsmedia and was asked a number of questions. Joining in on the conference call were his lead counsel, Charlie Spies and his strategist. When asked how the process works from here, Spies said that Allen has until 10:14 Sunday morning (48 hours from certification) to file a recount petition, then the Benishek camp has up to 7 days to counter. When asked how much a recount would cost the candidates, Spies did not give an exact figure, but stressed that Benishek is benefiting from a number of energized volunteers both in their election protection team and volunteer counsel as well.

Benishek was asked why he thinks he is the best candidate for the job, not having run for office before, and not having any experience in government. The doctor countered, 6 out of 10 people in the district voted for a political newcomer, referring to the 6-way race, 5 candidates had not held office before.

Dubbed as one of the “closest races in Michigan history,” this primary contest was hard fought by all candidates and their teams. Finding a way to laugh at it all, Benishek joked that his new knickname is “Landslide Dan.”

President Obama will be in Holland, MI today to break ground on a new lithium ion battery plant. LG Chem, a South Korean company was wooed to Michigan with Federal Stimulus dollars and $100 million in cash subsidies.

This is part of Jennifer Granholm’s “going from rust to green initiative” and the plant is supposed to be the supplier for the Chevy Volt, and the Ford Focus.

The company has promised to supply up to 400 jobs in the Holland area, but admitted that they would not be coming to Michigan if not for the tax breaks and Fed dollars.

Liberal Republican, Senator Jason Allen is running against conservative Dr. Dan Benishek in Michigan’s First District, that is held by Bart Stupak.
Allen voted for the battery initiative to add over $100 million in Michigan taxpayer dollars in cash subsidies to the federal stimulus money to bring LG Chem to Holland. Holland is in the Western Lower Peninisula, and Allen is running in the vast tundra of the Northern tip of the mitt and the Upper Peninsula. No word if Allen will be there for the groundbreaking with Obama and Granholm, but he should be. He thoroughly believes in government creating jobs.

The massive amounts of ink used to distribute the golden ticket for certain companies should have been used to continuously and unabashedly challenge this administration to cut taxes to all business. It is clear that the current Democrat Party is interested in business only when it suits their own lofty notions that certain companies can “save the planet,” it is clear also, that the Republican establishment in Michigan is not leading, but is led around by whatever the Democrats happen to be doing.

You can help Benishek defeat Allen in Michigan’s First District by joining the VOTER BOMB. There is 20 days before the primary. Don’t let a Liberal Republican win the nomination!

The fight the people of this nation are in to change the make up of Congress and install Conservative Leadership, is crucial to this nation’s survival. That’s why I am so excited that another conservative icon has endorsed Dan Benishek for Congress.

Erick Erickson, the Editor-In-Chief of Redstate.com, is highly regarded as an influential activist and a plain-spoken conservative who is able to articulate in writing the thoughts of so many concerned citizens.

On RedState’s front page this morning:

Dan Benishek is in a fight against everything we oppose. His “Republican” opponent has sold himself out to the unions and they love him. Between freedom and tyranny, Dan’s opponent has routinely sided with the tyranny of unions that want to impose their ways of not doing business on you and me.

This is a Hoffman v. Scozzafava race and it is within a Republican Primary.

We need to support Dan Benishek. The alternative would be too much.

Yes, in fact it would be devastating. The alternative is Jason Allen, who is right now benefiting from the serge of some tea party influences for another candidate. The tea party organizers have decided to endorse candidates, and in many instances that has hurt Stillings, the candidate in question. But the fact remains that the votes for the tea party endorsed candidate would be a vote for Allen, a liberal Republican with ties to every big government attempt to attract business to Michigan in a most egregious pattern of crony capitalism.

A friend and fellow Michigan Conservative Activist puts things this way:

A HARD NOSED ASSESSMENT OF JASON ALLEN’S CHANCES OF WINNING IN NOVEMBER
* With Mr. Stupak off to greener pastures, it’s important for Michigan and the country that the 1st Cong. District not fall back into the hands of Nancy Pelosi and the Democrat party. Of the two most likely Republican candidates, only Dan Benishek can win in November. It would be disastrous if Jason Allen were to win on August 3rd. He has too many unrepairable negatives going forward into the fall campaign, making him an easy target for Democrat McDowell. It will be a needless philosophical setback for the tea party-related and anti-establishment enthusiasm that has finally and appropriately grabbed the anti-spending, anti-Obama health care, pro-individual liberty, pro-limited government heart and soul of this nation.
* The key to any Republican win is for the candidate to do extremely well in the U.P. or to carry it outright. Benishek can do this but Allen can’t. Here’s why:
* Mr. Allen possesses a wide array of equal opportunity negatives sufficient to trouble Republican and Democrat alike — negatives the Democrats will push at even a faster pace after the primary.
* Democrats (and Republicans) are already turned off by Allen’s crassly opportunistic and, some say, underhanded move into a rural district in which he does not live and with which he has no deep rooted sociological connection. “Carpetbagger,” is not a good title to be toting around during a critical campaign.
* Any number of UP Democrats and former lukewarm Stupak supporters are poised to be turned off by their sense that Allen is a “typical rich Republican” who not only does not come from Ishpeming, Manistique or Iron Mountain, but rather from the “Grosse Pointe of the North,” Traverse City. Allen will also be seen by many as being inherently incapable of understanding the way everyday UP residents look at the world.
* With each passing election cycle the increasingly liberal Mr. Allen reveals himself to small government Republicans as being a Republican in name only. He regularly votes for or introduces legislation on behalf of those offering him the most “help” as it relates to his career ambitions. The highly respected Mackinac Center in Midland, Michigan views Allen as routinely pandering to special interests – whomever they may be. See: http://www.mackinac.org/12398 See also: http://www.mackinac.org/12357 See also: http://www.rightmichigan.com/story/2010/4/23/23928/9309
* Jason Allen will not excite the enthusiasm of those potential Republican campaign volunteers such as those currently working for Benishek…those tired of business as usual in Lansing and Washington. Such folks might or might not vote for Allen in November. They will certainly not volunteer to help his fall campaign.
* In 2009 Mr. Allen accepted a $2,000 campaign contribution from that infamous architect of ACORN, the Service Employees International Union. This gift arrived suspiciously close to the time frame in which the SEIU asked Allen to introduce a bill (SB 731) that would have unionized some 42,000 bewildered Michigan home health care workers. Once the flak started rolling in over such a crass betrayal of free market principles, Allen scrambled around to get the bill changed, but the damage to his reputation as a Republican was already done. It’s important that you see www.mackinac.org/11539 for validation.
* Jason Allen has made three fatal mistakes. His under the radar move into a rural district for which he has no natural interest. He is a long time career professional whose true political/spiritual loyalty is to Lansing and himself, not to the likes of Baraga County or Gladstone, Michigan. Third, the unconscionable deal with the SEIU which revealed for all time the kind of person he is behind the conservative mask.
* The degree of ease with which Dan Benishek will beat Democrat Gary McDowell in November is the same degree of ease with which McDowell and the Stupak machine will beat Jason Allen. And, we’ll be stuck with another Pelosi Democrat. We dare not allow this to happen.

I agree, if Jason Allen wins the primary, he will not win the general, if for no other reason, that he will lose all grassroots support, and he will be running as a “rich Republican” in a conservative district.

My interview with Dan Benishek can be read here.

Dan Benishek is the only logical choice in this critical election.

Since the debut of her book, A Choice Not An Echo, Phyllis Schlafly has been reconized as a leader of the conservative movement. Yesterday, her grassroots volunteer network that consists of 80,000 members nationwide, endorsed Dan Benishek for Congress.

Schlafly is founder and president of Eagle Forum, a grassroots volunteer network that participates in the making of public policy reflecting conservative values.

President Ronald Reagan said of Schlafly,

“Eagle Forum has set a high standard of volunteer participation in the political and legislative process. . . . You’ve been out front on so many of the most important issues of our time. . . . Your work is an example to all those who would struggle for an America that is prosperous and free. . . . Our nation needs the kind of dedicated individual volunteer service you and Eagle Forum have demonstrated over the last 20 years.“

From a press release:

Mrs. Schlafly said, “Dr. Benishek had the courage to stand up and say ‘Enough is Enough’ when he saw the way the liberal majority was growing government and spending taxpayer dollars“.

Colleen Holmes, Executive Director of Eagle Forum followed up saying: “One of the greatest results we’re seeing with the Tea Parties and the massive grassroots outpouring against the current Congress’ agenda, is that candidates like Dan Benishek, who are committed to their faith, family and communties, are stepping up, making the sacrifice and doing the work necessary to run for Congress.”

Dr. Benishek stated: “I am honored to have the endorsement of the Eagle Forum, a great organization promoting traditional values and limited government, both of which are important parts of my platform. Like the Eagle Forum I believe that the majority of Americans believe in a conservative philosophy and that the November elections will prove as much. I look forward to being one of those who can help take their message to the capitol.”

Docs4PatientCare began as a grassroots movement led by a prominent physician in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Hal Scherz, who felt he must act in response to the AMA’s support of Obamacare.

Attempting to enact his big-government health care scheme, President Obama and his supporters frequently claimed that a “majority” of doctors supported his health-care plans. When the American Medical Association – which had opposed HillaryCare – signed onto Obama’s plan last year, the organization seemed to make the President’s case. Most people assumed that the AMA represented most of the doctors in the country. But in fact, the AMA represents less than 20 percent of all physicians in the United States. And yet as the organization’s leadership moved more to the left, it held a near monopoly on media attention on issues pertaining to public health. No longer.

On Saturday June 26th, 2010, Docs4PatientCare made it’s first ever endorsement. As a politically neutral group who advocate for responsible healthcare reform, they held a press conference in Marquette, MI at the Landmark Inn to endorse Dr. Dan Benishek for Congress.

Dr. Dan Benishek, a surgeon from Crystal Falls, MI, is running for the United States House of Representatives in Michigan’s First District. The seat, now held by retiring Representative Bart Stupak, comprises all of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, and approximately the northern third of the Lower Peninsula.

Dr. Richard Armstrong, a general surgeon from Newberry, MI, delivered the endorsement in a speech that highlighted Dan’s abilities as a surgeon and the man he would replace in Congress.

Dr. Armstrong remarked,”It is unfortunate that the Congressman currently representing Michigan’s 1st District has played such an important role in the passage of the misguided legislation that is already starting to ruin the doctor-patient relationship. Obamacare is causing insurance premiums to rise and is leading to the inevitable rationing of care,” reported the Marquette Mining Journal.“It is only fitting that Dr. Benishek, physician who understands the importance of de-funding, repealing and replacing this legislation take this seat back to provide the people the representation they deserve.”

“Through advertising, grassroots activities and even direct financial support, thousands of doctors from all across the district and all across the nation will be making sure their voices are heard now that Dr. Benishek’s will be heard in the next United States Congress,” Armstrong said.

Docs4PatientCare has a main objective they share with Dr. Dan Benishek, to de-fund, repeal, and replace the health care reform law put forward by Obama’s administration.

Dr. Dan Benishek has been endorsed by fellow doctors who are current legislators, Representative Charles Boustany Jr., M.D. of Louisiana’s 7th congressional district, and Representative Michael Burgess, M.D. of the 26th district of Texas.

This endorsement from people who work in the medical field everyday certainly helps Dr. Dan Benishek in his quest to become the Representative of Michigan’s First District.

For a more clear understanding of what the law will do, Jill Vecchio, MD, created this slideshow, and it can be found on the Docs4PatientCare website.
